The Orchard Street Press is delighted to announce the release of Quiet Diamonds 2022, the fifth edition of our annual poetry journal, composed of poems selected from entries to Orchard Street’s annual Poetry Contest. This year we received almost 700 poems from writers in 37 states. From these submissions, 48 pieces were chosen, challenging our judges with the task of selecting the 7% or so that would ultimately be included in a publication that has established a reputation as one of the finest collections published each year. This year’s edition extends and enhances that regard.
Ben Onachila, author of Homecoming and Anubis Stands Close By, says of Quiet Diamonds 2022: “The poets herein, like the collective lens of the Webb Space Telescope, deftly express and bring us closer to that which we may have thought we already knew with an expanded vision of what it is to see, enriching our personal universe…These poems are treasures…filled with life’s moments blended into the sweet scent of cedar and salt water. The reader will not be disappointed at any turn of the page but will read in wonder.”
James Scruton chair of the of the Humanities Department at Bethel College and author of Blind Season, The Rules, and Galileo’s House, writes: “These poets display knowledge ‘in and out of books’ as Frost once advised…The voices here are rich in experience and texture…poems of vigil and ritual, festivals and farewells, in scenes ranging from hospital beds to creek beds…This volume provides light aplenty for readers.”
Individual copies of Quiet Diamonds 2022 are $16. However, contributors (who receive a complimentary copy) and Contest entrants can purchase copies (either online or via the mail) for $10 each from:
