Thoughts on Quiet Diamonds 2025
“Once again, Quiet Diamonds is a treasure chest of precious gems, from the opening First Prize-winning poem “Snatching the Sunset” (by Tanya Young of Osprey, FL) to the closing “The Poem of Going Over the Edge” (by Patrick Daly of Menlo Park, CA). As may occur with real diamonds, There is often an inner glow that draws one back to more closely examine The poem, to marvel at its many facets, its richness, its depth. Open the Cover—the metaphorical lid—and be dazzled by what you find.
Matthew J. Spireng: author of Good Work, winner of the 2019 Sinclair Poetry Prize from Evening Street Press
“Once again, the annual Poetry Contest of The Orchard Street Press has produced an amazing array of poems that have brought their readers new insights, different perspectives, and enriched experiences of the beauty and complexity of our world. Dor those of us who had the privilege of putting together this collection, there were many reactions of “I’ve never thought of that,” I’ve never seen that combination of words before,” and, just as importantly, “I wish I had written that.” These have been among the central standards applied as the submitted poems are reviewed each year. I am sure that you too will find yourself nodding in appreciation of the gems gathered for this 2025 edition of Quiet Diamonds.
